Applications
Piezometers
Piezometers measure pore-water pressure and ground water levels.
They are used in geotechnical, environmental, and hydrological
applications.
Geotechnical Applications
Piezometer measurements help engineers to:
q
Control placement of fill.
q
Predict slope stability.
q
Design and build for lateral earth pressures.
q
Design and build for uplift pressures and buoyancy.
q
Monitor seepage and verify models of flow.
Environmental Applications
Some of the applications listed above are also relevant to environ-
mental remediation and containment systems. Other applications,
not discussed in this guide, include the use of piezometers to:
q
Monitor surface water runoff.
q
Monitor water levels at contaminated sites, to find the rate and di-
rection of movement of the contamination plume.
Hydrological Applications
Hydrological applications not discussed in this guide include the use
of piezometers to:
q
Map subsurface water flow and to predict both the volume of wa-
ter in an aquifer and its recharge rate.
q
Monitor streams for forestry, agriculture, power companies, and
metropolitan water districts.
q
Monitor tidal effects on coastal soils.
q
Monitor the encroachment of salt water into fresh water aquifers.
Rembco Geotechnical Contractors specializes in
slope stabilization,
soil nail wall,
foundation repair
and support,
grouting,
shoring,
micropile
construction,
rock drilling, and we remediate
sinkholes. We use a
problem-solving approach in the geotechnical portions of buildings, bridges, water plants, sewage plants, tunnels,
installing caisson bottom, and roads. We are experienced in these applications:
micro piles,
sinkhole repair,
permeation and
pressure
grouting,
soil nails,
cement grouting,
chemical grouting,
micropiles,
compaction grouting, and
rock anchors.
Rembco techniques apply when adding new structures: especially
rock anchor,
microfine cement,
soil nailing, and
micropile
installations for foundation support. Our specialties are
soil nails,
rock anchor,
chemical and
compaction grouting,
mini piles,
sinkhole repair,
micropiles, and
soil nailing.
