VS Piezometer
Slope Indicator’s VS piezometer is a pressure transducer that can
be sealed in a borehole or embedded in fill. Its sensing mechanism
consists of a tensioned steel strip, a bellows, and an electro-
magnetic coil. The mechanism is configured so that increased water
pressure directly increases the tensional load on the steel strip,
eliminating the deflecting diaphragm used in other vibrating-wire
transducers. When excited by the magnetic coil, the strip vibrates.
The vibration of the strip in the fields of the magnetic coil generates
a frequency signal that is transmitted via signal cable to the readout
device.
Some readout devices simply display a frequency reading. Other
readouts, such as Slope Indicator’s DataMate series, convert the
frequency reading to units of pressure or water head.
Advantages
q
Provides highest resolution at low pressures.
q
Very stable, negligible long term drift or temperature sensitivity.
q
Reading station is remote from work area and does not interfere
with construction activity.
q
Very good response time even in soils with low permeability.
q
Easy to automate.
q
Available in vented form for monitoring wells.
Limitations
q
More expensive than some other types of piezometers.
q
Calibrated components are buried.

Rembco Geotechnical Contractors specializes in
slope stabilization,
soil nail wall,
foundation repair
and support,
grouting,
shoring,
micropile
construction,
rock drilling, and we remediate
sinkholes. We use a
problem-solving approach in the geotechnical portions of buildings, bridges, water plants, sewage plants, tunnels,
installing caisson bottom, and roads. We are experienced in these applications:
micro piles,
sinkhole repair,
permeation and
pressure
grouting,
soil nails,
cement grouting,
chemical grouting,
micropiles,
compaction grouting, and
rock anchors.
Rembco techniques apply when adding new structures: especially
rock anchor,
microfine cement,
soil nailing, and
micropile
installations for foundation support. Our specialties are
soil nails,
rock anchor,
chemical and
compaction grouting,
mini piles,
sinkhole repair,
micropiles, and
soil nailing.
