Horizontal Inclinometer
Slope Indicator’s horizontal inclinometer system consists of inclino-
meter casing, a horizontal inclinometer probe, control cable, a stain-
less steel pull-cable, and a readout device. The casing is buried in a
trench or attached to a structure. When the casing is accessible only
at one end, a dead-end pulley and return pipe is installed for the
pull-cable.
The inclinometer probe, control cable, and readout unit are used to
survey the casing. The first survey establishes the initial profile of
the casing. Subsequent surveys reveal changes in the profile if
ground movement occurs.
During the survey, the probe is drawn through the casing and halted
at one-meter intervals for inclination (tilt) measurements. Displace-
ment, the distance the casing has been moved by settlement, is cal-
culated as L(sine
.

- sine
.

), where L is the gauge length of the
sensor,
.
1
is the current tilt and
.
0
is the initial tilt. Data processing is
similar to that of vertical inclinometers.
Advantages
q
Provides continuous settlement profile.
q
Does not interfere with site operations.
Limitations
q
Expensive.
q
Slow, labor-intensive readings.
q
Practical limit of 150 to 200 meter casing.
q
Optical survey required for absolute measurements.
Rembco Geotechnical Contractors specializes in
slope stabilization,
soil nail wall,
foundation repair
and support,
grouting,
shoring,
micropile
construction,
rock drilling, and we remediate
sinkholes. We use a
problem-solving approach in the geotechnical portions of buildings, bridges, water plants, sewage plants, tunnels,
installing caisson bottom, and roads. We are experienced in these applications:
micro piles,
sinkhole repair,
permeation and
pressure
grouting,
soil nails,
cement grouting,
chemical grouting,
micropiles,
compaction grouting, and
rock anchors.
Rembco techniques apply when adding new structures: especially
rock anchor,
microfine cement,
soil nailing, and
micropile
installations for foundation support. Our specialties are
soil nails,
rock anchor,
chemical and
compaction grouting,
mini piles,
sinkhole repair,
micropiles, and
soil nailing.
