B. Accurately record location of utilities remaining, rerouted utilities, new utilities by horizontal dimensions, elevations or inverts, and slope gradients.
1.05 PROTECTION
A. Protect trees, shrubs, lawn, rock outcropping, and other features remaining as portion of final landscaping.
B. Protect bench marks, existing structures, fences, roads, sidewalks and paving and curbs.
C. Protect above or below grade utilities which are to remain.
D. Repair damage to those above items indicated to remain. Restore to condition before construction.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
03 MATERIALS
A. Topsoil: Approved material, graded free of roots, rocks larger than one inch subsoil, debris, and large weeds.
B. Subsoil: Approved material, graded free of lumps larger than 6 inches; rocks larger than 3 inches and debris.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
04 INSPECTION
A. Verify site conditions and note irregularities affecting work of this Section before beginning work.
B. Beginning work of this Section means acceptance of existing conditions.
05 PREPARATION
A. Identify required lines, levels, contours, and datum.
B. Identify known below grade utilities. Stake and flag locations.
C. Identify and flag above grade utilities.
D. Maintain and protect existing utilities remaining which pass through work area.
E. Notify utility company to remove and relocate utilities.
F. Upon discovery of unknown utility or concealed conditions.
1. If active and damaged, immediately restore to working order, discontinue affected work, notify Engineer.
2. Otherwise, discontinue affected work, notify Engineer.
06 TOPSOIL EXCAVATION
A. Excavate topsoil from areas to be further excavated, relandscaped, or regraded and remove from site as required.
B. Do not excavate wet topsoil.
07 SUBSOIL EXCAVATION
A. Excavate subsoil from areas to be relandscaped or regraded and remove subsoil from site.
B. Do not excavate wet subsoil.
C. Excavate subsoil to a maximum depth of 16' from the surface and remove from site to an approved special waste permitted site. (Reference Section 02220 - Excavation, Backfilling, and Compaction)
08 SUBSOIL PREPARATION
A. Eliminate uneven areas and low spots. Remove debris, roots, branches, stones, in excess of 1/2 inch in size. Remove subsoil disturbed by construction activities as a special waste.
B. Scarify new subgrade to depth of 3 inches where topsoil is scheduled. Scarify in areas where equipment used for hauling and spreading topsoil has compacted subsoil.
09 PLACING TOPSOIL
A. Place topsoil in areas where seeding sodding or planting is scheduled.
B. Use topsoil in relatively dry state. Place during dry weather.
C. Fine grade topsoil eliminating rough or low areas. Maintain levels, profiles, and contours of subgrade.
D. Remove stone, roots, grass, weeds, debris, and foreign material while spreading.
E. Manually spread topsoil around trees and buildings to prevent damage.
F. Lightly compact Roll placed topsoil.
G. Remove surplus borrow subsoil and topsoil from site.
H. Leave stockpile area and site clean and raked, ready to receive landscaping.
I. Schedule of Locations:
1. The following paragraphs identify compacted topsoil thicknesses for various locations.
2. Seeded Grass: 6 inches.
3. Sod: 4 inches.
4. Shrub Beds: 18 inches.
5. Flower Beds: 12 inches.
6. Planter Boxes: To within 3 inches of box rim.
3.02 TOLERANCES
A. General: Uniformly grade areas within limits of grading under this section, including adjacent transition areas. Smooth finished surface within specified tolerances, compact with uniform levels or slopes between points where elevations are indicated, or between such points and existing grades.
B. Grading Outside Building Lines: Grade areas adjacent to building lines to drain away from structures and to prevent ponding.
C. Finish surfaces free from irregular surface changes, and as follows:
D. Lawn or Unpaved Areas: Finish areas to receive topsoil to within not more than 0.10' above or below required subgrade elevations.
E. Walks: Shape surface of areas under walks to line, grade and cross-section, with finish surface not more than 0.10' above or below required subgrade elevation.
F. Pavements: Shape surface of areas under pavement to line, grade and cross-section, with finish surface not more than 1/2" above or below required subgrade elevation.
