FILTER FABRIC
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SECTION INCLUDES
A. A filter fabric pipe where required around the exterior of the primary tunnel liner or at other locations noted on the Contract Drawings.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit the standard manufacturer's catalog sheets and other pertinent information.
PART 2 - PRODUCT
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Provide an engineered fabric commonly used in geotechnical applications.
B. The fabric shall provide a permeable layer or media while retaining the soil matrix.
C. The fabric shall be a nonwoven fabric consisting only of continuous chain polymer filaments or yarns of polyester, formed into a stable network by needle punching. The fabric shall be inert to commonly encountered chemicals and hydrocarbons, shall be mildew and rot resistant, and shall be resistant to ultra-violet light exposure, insects, and rodents. The fabric shall be nonbiodegradable and inert over a pH range of 3 to 12.

E. The fabric shall be wrapped in a protective covering.
2.01 ACCEPTABLE PRODUCTS
Trevira No. 1115 as manufactured by Hoechst or Mirafi No. 140S, or equal.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION IN TUNNEL SEWER CONSTRUCTION
A. The use of the filter fabric around the exterior of the primary liner is intended to prevent the migration of soil fines into the excavated tunnel and the resultant creation of voids or settlement.
1. Installation behind ring beams and timber lagging.
a. Filter fabric shall be installed in the tail shield of the tunnel boring machine
b. Filter fabric shall be installed around the exterior of ring beams and timber lagging.
