    CHAIN LINK FENCING

   PART 1 - GENERAL

   1.01 SUMMARY

    Work to be performed shall include installing new chain link fencing as indicated on the drawings. New fencing and accessories shall be furnished and installed as required to complete the installation. New fencing shall not be used as security fencing during construction of the facilities.

   1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    Fence shall be installed by experienced personnel of a company regularly engaged in this type work. Work shall conform to recommendations of the Chain Link Fence Manufacturers Institute. Completed installation shall be equivalent in materials and workmanship to the existing fence.

   1.03 HANDLING

    Care shall be taken in the handling of all new materials. Damaged or defective components shall be replaced with new components.

   PART 2 - PRODUCTS

   2.01 FABRIC

    Chain link fabric shall be 2" diamond mesh fabric, with top and bottom edges barbed, of No. 9 aluminum coat wire 0.148" in diameter. The 6' fence height shown means the nominal width of the fabric. Minimum weight of aluminum coating shall be 0.40 oz. per square foot of wire surface.

   2.02 POSTS, RAILS, FRAMES, AND BRACES

    Standard steel pipe shall conform to the following nominal diameters and weights:

    Diameter-O.D. Wt. Per ft.

    Line Posts 2-3/8" 3.65 lbs.

    End, Corner & Gate Posts 2-7/8" 5.79 lbs.

    Top Rails 1-5/8" 1.82 lbs.

    Braces 2-3/8" 1.82 lbs.

   2.03 GATES

    The gates shall be of dimensions as shown on the drawings, and shall be covered with chain link fabric. Gates shall be complete with rollers, latches, and with preparation for padlocking, and left in proper operating condition. Gates shall be of such design as to roll back from gate opening along the fence line.

   2.04 ACCESSORIES

    Approved post tops, sleeves and other fittings shall be provided for a complete installation. All such framework material shall be hot-dip zinc-coated after fabrication, coating to weigh not less than 2.0 oz. per square foot.

    Fence shall be provided with three strands of galvanized barbed wire across the top.

   PART 3 - EXECUTION

   3.01 ERECTION

    Posts shall be carefully aligned and plumb in each direction.

    Post settings in earth shall consist of concrete footings not less than 12" in diameter and 3'0" deep below finished grade. Posts shall be set 6" above bottom of concrete footings.

    Posts in solid rock shall be set in holes and grouted or leaded solidly in place. Such holes shall be of a diameter at least 2" larger than the greatest sectional dimension of the post, and shall be at least 14" deep.

    The top rail shall be continuous through line posts and shall be rigidly connected to all end, corner and gate posts.

    Truss bracing shall be provided in panels adjoining all end, corner and gate posts.

    Chain link fabric shall be placed with top selvage projecting above top of rail and bottom 2" above finished grade. Fabric shall be stretched tightly to eliminate sags and buckles, and shall be laced to posts at intervals not exceeding 14" and to top rail at 24" intervals, with No. 6 galvanized wire or equivalent. Lacing shall be turned back to eliminate exposed ends.
