    STAINLESS STEEL DOORS AND FRAMES

   PART 1 - GENERAL

   1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

    A. Stainless steel fabricated non-rated and fire rated steel frames, doors, panels and louvers.

   1.04 SUBMITTALS

    A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

    B. Shop Drawings: Indicate dimensions, frame configuration, anchor spacings, door elevations, stile and rail reinforcement closure method, and cut outs for glazing and/or louvers.

    C. Product Data: Provide general construction, connections, anchor types, location of cutouts for hardware, and hardware reinforcement.

    D. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Indicate special procedures and protection to finishes required.

    E. Manufacturer's Certificate: Certify that products meet or exceed specified requirements.

   1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    A. Perform Work in accordance with SDI 100 and NAAMM CHM-1-74 and as supplemented in this Section.

   1.06 QUALIFICATIONS

    A. Fabricator: Company specializing in performing the work of this Section with minimum five years documented experience.

   1.07 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

    A. Conform to Standard Building Code for fire rated frames, doors, and panels.

    B. Installed frame and door assembly to conform to ANSI/NFPA 80 NAAMM Section 6 for fire rated class indicated.

   1.08 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

    A. Deliver, store, protect and handle products to site under provisions of Section 01600.

    B. Protect doors and frames with resilient packaging sealed with heat shrunk plastic.

    C. Puncture seal on delivery to permit ventilation.

   1.09 FIELD MEASUREMENTS

    A. Verify that field measurements are as indicated on shop drawings instructed by the manufacturer.

   1.10 COORDINATION

    A. Coordinate work under provisions of Section 01039.

    B. Coordinate the Work with door hardware sizes, types and installation.

   PART 2 - PRODUCTS

   2.01 FABRICATORS

    A. Curries Company.

   2.02 MATERIALS

    A. Frame, Door and Panel Material: ASTM A480, Type 316 ANSI/ASTM A167; rollable temper stainless steel, No. 4. finish.

    B. Frame Reinforcement: ASTM A525 sheet steel with 1.25 oz/sq ft galvanized coating.

    C. Door and Panel Core Construction: Steel channel grid; vertical stainless steel stiffeners.

    D. Door and Panel Core Filler: Mineral fiberboard.

   2.03 FRAME AND DOOR COMPONENTS

    A. Exterior Frames:

    1. Thickness: 14 gage.

    2. Profile: 2 inches wide by 5-3/4 inches deep.

    B. Interior Frames:

    1. Thickness: 16 gage.

    2. Profile: 2 inches wide by 5-3/4 inches deep.

    C. Doors:

    1. Face Sheet Thickness: 16 gage.

    2. Total Door Thickness: 1-3/4 inches.

    3. Vertical Stiles: 6 inches wide.

    4. Top Rail: 6 inches wide.

    5. Bottom Rail: 12 inches.

    D. Hardware Reinforcement: Size, thickness, and location in accordance with NAAMM CHM-1-74.

   2.04 ACCESSORIES

    A. Louvers: Roll formed stainless steel, inverted V blade, sight proof design; 85 percent free area; flush style frame with tamperproof fasteners.

    B. Jamb Anchors: T-strap type.

    C. Silencers: Resilient rubber.

    D. Glazing Stops: Rolled stainless steel channel shape, mitered corners; prepared for countersunk tamperproof screws.

    E. Shim Space Insulation: Foamed-in-place type.

   2.05 FRAME COATING

    A. Coating: Fibered asphalt emulsion.

   2.06 FABRICATION

    A. Fabricate frames as a shop welded with mitered corners unit. Grind welds smooth and apply filler, sand smooth.

    B. Size units to allow for installation clearances, shim spacing at perimeter of installed assembly, and deflection of lintel.

    C. Provide flush hairline and weatherproof joints and connections. Match components for continuity of line and design.

    D. Astragals for Double Doors: Metal Z shaped astragals for doors.

    E. Fabricate frames and doors with hardware reinforcement plates welded in place. Locate reinforcement in accordance with templates provided.

    F. Weld mortar guard boxes to frames protecting hardware reinforcement.

    G. Reinforce frames wider than 48 inches with roll formed steel channels fitted tightly into frame head, flush with top.

    H. Prepare interior frame for silencers; three silencers for strike jamb at single doors; two single silencers on frame head at each leaf for double doors.

    I. Attach fire rated label to each rated unit.

    J. Close top edge of exterior door with inverted stainless steel channel closure. Seal joints weather tight.

    K. Configure exterior frames with special profile to receive weatherstripping.

   2.07 HARDWARE INSTALLATION

    A. Install hardware in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and requirements of NAAMM Sections 6 and 8 ANSI/NFPA 80 BHMA.

    B. Use the templates provided by hardware item manufacturer.

    C. Conform to ANSI A117.1 for positioning requirements for the handicapped.

   2.08 FINISH

    A. Paint inside of frame profile with bitumastic coating to a thickness of 1/16 inch.

   PART 3 - EXECUTION

   3.01 EXAMINATION

    A. Verify wall openings under provisions of Section 01039.

    B. Verify that wall opening sizes and tolerances are acceptable.

   3.02 INSTALLATION

    A. Install frames in accordance with NAAMM Section 6 and manufacturer's instructions.

    B. Install assemblies plumb, level and free of warp or twist.

    C. Coordinate with masonry wall construction for anchor placement.

    D. Install shim space insulation around perimeter of frame assemblies to maintain continuity of thermal barrier.

    E. Coordinate installation of glass and glazing.

    F. Coordinate installation of door hardware and weatherstripping.

    G. Install louvers.

    H. Install roll formed steel reinforcement channels between two abutting frames. Anchor to structure and floor.

   3.03 ERECTION TOLERANCES

    A. Maximum Diagonal Distortion of Installed Door or Frame: 1/16 inch measured with straight edge, corner to corner.

   3.04 ADJUSTING

    A. Adjust work under provisions of Section 01700.

    B. Adjust hardware for smooth and balanced door movement.

   3.05 CLEANING

    A. Clean work under provisions of 01700.

    B. Remove temporary protection and clean assemblies just prior to acceptance.

   3.06 PROTECTION OF FINISHED WORK

    A. Protect finished work under provisions of Section 01500.

    B. Do not permit traffic near finished work without protection to finishes.
