01 SECTION INCLUDES

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. For the purpose of designating the minimum aesthetic, functional and quality standards for the work of this section, proprietary products are specified.
B. Substitutions:
1. Products of manufacturers listed in this section are acceptable only after compliance with requirements of this section.
2. Products of manufacturers not listed in this section are acceptable for evaluation only after compliance with substitution requirements in Section 01630.
C. Material shall be furnished by a firm regularly engaged in supplying finish hardware for commercial, industrial and institutional construction.
1. This firm shall employ at least one qualified Architectural Hardware Consultant, available to the Architect and General Contractor for consultation as required to complete the work.
D. Fire-Rated Openings: Provide hardware for fire-rated openings in compliance with NFPA Standard No. 80. Provide only hardware which has been tested and listed by UL for the types and sizes of doors required and complies with the requirements of the door and door frame labels.
E. Where emergency exit devices are required on fire-rated doors (with supplementary marking on door UL label indicating "Fire Door to be Equipped with Fire Exit Hardware), provide UL label on exit device indicating "Fire Exit Hardware".
1.03 DELIVERY, HANDLING, STORAGE
A. Packing and Marking: Individually package each unit of finish hardware, complete with proper fastenings and appurtenances, clearly marked on the outside to indicate the contents and specific locations in the work. The hardware supplier shall meet at the jobsite with the installer prior to commencing installation of hardware, for explanation of packing, labeling and hardware schedule data, if required.
1. Comply with Sections 01610 and 01620.
B. Replacements: In the event of damaged, immediately make all repairs and replacements necessary to the approval of the Architect and at no additonal cost to the Owner.
1.04 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit the following in accordance with Section 01340.
B. Hardware Schedule: Complete materials list of all items proposed to be furnished and delivered under this Section.
1. Identify each item by manufacturer, catalogue number and location in the work, using door designation shown on drawings.
2. Make schedule in vertical format to facilitate checking by Architect.
3. Architect's approval of Hardware Schedule shall not relieve Contractor of the responsibility to furnish all necessary hardware.
C. Manufacturer's Product Data: Indicating full compliance with requirements of this Section.
1. Catalog "cut-sheets" shall be marked to clearly identify hardware scheduled.
2. Substitutions: When submitting products of a manufacturer other than those listed in the Hardware Schedule, furnish cut-sheets of the scheduled item as well as the corresponding proposed substitution.
D. Installation Instructions: For items requiring special field preparation, submit two copies.
E. Templates: After hardware schedule is approved, deliver hardware templates or physical samples to pertinent suppliers of interfacing items such as doors and frames.
1.05 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE DATA
A. Tools for Maintenance: Furnish a complete set of specialized tools as needed for Owner's continued adjustment, maintenance and removal and replacement of builders hardware.
1.06 KEYING
A. General: Supplier will meet with Owner to finalize keying requirements and obtain final instructions in writing.
B. Provide locks with six pin tumbler cylinders, keyed, keyed alike, masterkeyed and grandmaster keyed as directed by Owner, including the following:
1. Four change keys for each cylinder.
2. Six master keys for each master key group.
3. Six grandmaster keys for each grandmaster key group.
C. Construction master key feature: Shall permit voiding of construction keys without removing cylinder.
D. All permanent keys, master keys and grand master keys, shall be delivered to the General Contractor's Project Manager, with carbon copy of the transmittal to the Owner and Architect. The General Contractor shall deliver keys to the Owner at such time as directed by the Architect, with copies of the transmittal to the Architect.
1.07 KEY CABINET
A. Type: Key cabinet complete with system components and instructions.
1. Cabinet Capacity: 20 percent more than actually required for this project.
2. Key Chart: Required (for Owner) at completion of work indicating the schematic of keying system.
B. Owner shall be responsible for setting up system for key control.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
03 HARDWARE
A. FINISH: Provide US32D-MARINE for hardware. Where US32D-MARINE is not available for the specified item, provide finish to match.
1. Lacquer finish door closers to match lockset.
2. Lever and rose shall be Sargent LL.
B. Keys: Provide keys of nickel silver only.
1. Stamp key bows "Do Not Duplicate".
2. Stamp key bows with change number.
C. HINGES: Butt hinges listed below are by Hager Hinge Co. Acceptable substitutes are: The Stanley Works and McKinney Manufacturing Co. Provide three 4½" x 4½" hinges for each door up to 7 feet high. Provide one extra hinge for each additional 18 inches or part thereof over 7 feet high. All doors are 1-3/4" thick.
1. Interior doors without closers:
a) No. 1279 for doors under 42 inches wide.
2. Interior doors with closers:
a) No. BB1279 for doors under 42 inches wide.
3. Exterior doors:
a) No. BB1191 for doors under 42 inches wide.
b) Provide safety stud feature for all out-swinging exterior doors.
D. MORTISE: Acceptable manufacturers are: Russwin 7000 Series, Sargent 7700 Line Series, Yale 8700 Series, Corbin 9500 Series and Schlage "L" Series.
1. Provide only UL listed locksets. Stamp latch bolt faces to indicate that locksets are UL listed.
E. DOOR CLOSERS: Acceptable manufacturers are Russwin 2820 Series, Sargent 1250 Series, Yale 4400 Series, Corbin K120 Series, LCN 4040 Series.
F. DOOR STOPS: Acceptable Manufacturers are: H.S. Ives Co.; Baldwin Mfg. Co.; Quality Hardware Co. and Trimco.
1. Provide wall mounted stops similar to Ives No. 408-½B or No. 407- ½B unless otherwise scheduled.
2. Provide floor stops similar to Ives No. 436B.
3. Where swing of a door interferes with another door, provide roller bumpers similar to Ives No. 470B, No. 471B, or No. 472B, as required to suit conditions.
4. Furnish door stops for all door leaves.
B. THRESHOLDS, WEATHERSTRIPPING, LIGHT SEALS:
C. Acceptable manufacturers are: National Guard Products; Pemko Mfg. Co.; Reese Weatherstripping Co.; and Zero Weatherstripping Co.
1. Thresholds: Except as otherwise indicated, provide a standard metal threshold unit as specified at each door in following categories:
a) Exterior Hinged/Pivoted Doors: National Guard No. 513.
b) For in-swinging doors provide units with interlocking lip and interior drain channel; include hook on bottom edge of door and drain pan.
c) For out-swinging doors provide rabbeted type units with replaceable weatherstrip insert in stop.
2. Weatherstripping: Except as otherwise indicated, provide weatherstripping at each edge of every exterior door leaf; National Guard No. 160 at jambs and head of doors unless otherwise specified.
D. RUBBER SILENCERS: Provide three per single door, and one per leaf of double doors.
E. MISCELLANEOUS HARDWARE: Items of hardware such as flush bolts, automatic flush bolts, roller latches, dutch door bolts, etc. are identified in the various hardware sets on Finish Hardware Schedule and shall be furnished as manufactured by firms listed above.
F. FASTENINGS: Provide hardware fastenings required to install hardware items, including machine screws, and through bolts. Furnish fastenings having a finish which matches their product.
G. ASTRAGALS: Provide full height steel astragals on all pairs of exterior doors.
H. CO-ORDINATORS, CARRY BARS AND STRIKES: Provide co-ordinators, carry bars and strikes on pairs of doors which have automatic closers and astragals.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
04 INSTALLATION
A. Mount hardware units at heights indicated in "Recommended Locations for Builders' Hardware" by the Door and Hardware Institute (DHI), except as otherwise specifically indicated or required to comply with governing regulations and except as may be otherwise directed by the Architect.
B. Install each hardware item in compliance with the manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. Coordinate removal, storage and reinstallation or application of surface protections with finishing work specified in the Division 9 sections. Do not install surface-mounted items until finishes have been completed on the substrate.
C. Set units level, plumb and true to line and location. Adjust and reinforce the attachment substrate as necessary for proper installation and operation.
D. Drill and countersink units which are not factory-prepared for anchorage fasteners. Space fasteners and anchors in accordance with industry standards.
E. Cut and fit threshold and floor covers to profile of door frames, with mitered corners and hairline joints; join units with concealed welds or concealed mechanical joints. Cut smooth openings for spindles, bolts and similar items, if any.
F. Screw thresholds to substrate with No. 10 or larger screws, of the proper type for permanent anchorage and of bronze or stainless steel which will not corrode in contact with the threshold metal.
G. On heavy-duty cast metal thesholds, provide not less than 3/8" (9mm) diameter screw anchors.
H. At exterior doors, and elsewhere as indicated, set thresholds in a bed of either butyl rubber sealant or polyisobutylene mastic sealant to completely fill concealed voids and exclude moisture from every source. Do not plug drainage holes or block weeps. Remove excess sealant.
I. Install key cabinet as directed by Architect and Owner. Turn over system components with instructions and schematic of the keying system to the Owner.
05 ADJUST AND CLEAN
A. Adjust and check each operating item of hardware and each door, to ensure proper operation or function of every unit. Replace units which cannot be adjusted to operate freely and smoothly as intended for the application made.
B. Final Adjustment: Wherever hardware installation is made more than one month prior to acceptance or occupancy of a space or area, return to the work during the week prior to acceptance or occupancy, and make final check and adjustment of all hardware items in such space or area. Clean operating items as necessary to restore proper function and finish of hardware and doors. Adjust door control devices to compensate for final operation of heating and ventilating equipment.
C. Instruct Owner's Personnel in proper adjustment and maintenance of hardware and hardware finishes during the final adjustment of hardware.
06 HARDWARE SETS
A. The following hardware sets are listed as a guide to requirements. Locksets, closers and other critical items of hardware are scheduled by model number to establish operating characteristics. It shall be the responsibility of the hardware supplier to provide additional hardware in accordance with this section, for the proper function of the door(s).
B. Refer to the Door Schedule for reference to the hardware set required for each door. The full intent of this specification shall apply. Substitution restrictions shall be strictly adhered to.
C. Manufacturer's listed in the Hardware Sets are as follows:
