PART 1 - GENERAL
01 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Ceiling framing systems for interior gypsum board ceilings.
02 REFERENCE STANDARDS
A. ASTM C754 - Installation of Framing Members to Receive Screw Attached Gypsum Wallboard, Backing Board, or Water-Resistant Backing Board.
B. GA-201 - Gypsum Board for Walls and Ceilings.
C. ASTM A525 - Weight of Coating on Zinc-Coated (Galvanized) Iron or Steel Articles.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit the following in accordance with Section 01340.
B. Manufacturer's Product Data: Clearly describing quality of all components and installation instructions.
1.03 DELIVERY, HANDLING, STORAGE
A. Products shall be delivered to job-site in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations bearing manufacturer's labels in accordance with Section 01610.
B. Store and protect products in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and Section 01620.
1. Maintain temperature and humidity within ranges required by manufacturer's instructions.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
03 MATERIALS
A. Suspended Ceiling Framing:
1. Carrying Channels: 1-1/2" cold rolled black steel, 0.475 psf.
2. Hanger Wire: 8 gauge steel wire.
B. Single-Span Fixed Ceiling framing:
1. For spans no longer than 8'-0" and a maximum 10 psf loading: 3-5/8" steel studs, 25 gauge (.0179"), galvanized, with Section Modulus of 0.106 and Moment of Inertial of 0.243 about the major axis.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
04 COORDINATION
A. Verify that work above ceiling is complete and existing conditions are acceptable.
B. Coordinate the layout of hanger wires with other work above ceiling.
C. Beginning ceiling framing work means acceptance of existing conditions.
05 INSTALLATION
A. General:
1. Install ceiling framing independent of walls, columns, and above ceiling work.
2. Installation shall be in accordance with ANSI/ASTM C754 and manufacturer's instructions.
B. Suspended Ceiling Framing:
1. Space hanger wire 48" o.c. along carrying channels and within 6" of ends.
2. Secure hanger wires to structural steel or embed in concrete with approved inserts.
3. Install carrying channels at 48" o.c. and within 6" of walls. When required by a designated UL assembly design, reduce the center to center spacing or install double furring channels as indicated.
4. Install furring channels at 16" o.c. at right angles to carrying channels. Attach with furring channel clips on alternate sides of carrying channel.
5. Where light fixtures occur, provide hanger wires at each corner and intermediates as necessary, anchored to structure to carry weight of light fixture. Frame around openings and install additional cross-reinforcing to restore lateral stability of ceiling framing. Light fixtures shall be independent of ceiling framing.
B. Single-Span Fixed Ceiling Framing:
1. Steel stud framed ceilings may be installed at interior spaces not wider than (8) eight feet.
2. At spans greater than 8 feet install suspended ceiling unless framing members and spacing are specifically designed and recommended by manufacturer for proposed span and loading with an allowable deflection of L/240.
3. Install runner channels or steel angle around perimeter.
4. Space main framing members at 16" o.c. with cross bracing at 48" o.c.
C. Final ceiling framing installation shall be level and flat with required openings framed and reinforced; ready to receive gypsum board ceilings.
