    WALL TILE

   PART 1 - GENERAL

   1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

    A. Ceramic tile wall finish using the thinset mortar bed application method.

   1.04 SUBMITTALS

    A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

    B. Shop Drawings: Indicate tile layout, patterns, color arrangement, perimeter conditions, junctions with dissimilar materials, control and expansion joints, thresholds, and setting details.

    C. Product Data: Provide instructions for using adhesives and grouts.

    D. Manufacturer's Certificate: Certify that Products furnished meet or exceed specified requirements ANSI A137.1.

   1.05 MAINTENANCE DATA

    A. Submit under provisions of Section 01700.

    B. Maintenance Data: Include recommended cleaning methods, cleaning materials, stain removal methods, and polishes and waxes.

   1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    A. Perform Work in accordance with ANSI A137.1.

    B. Conform to TCA Handbook, ANSI A108.1, ANSI A108.5, ANSI A108.6, and ANSI A108.10.

   1.07 QUALIFICATIONS

    A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing the Products specified in this section with minimum five years documented experience.

    B. Installer: Company specializing in performing the work of this section with minimum five years documented experience approved by manufacturer.

   1.08 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

    A. Deliver, store, protect and handle products to site under provisions of Section 01600.

    B. Protect adhesives from freezing or overheating in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

   1.09 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    A. Do not install adhesives in an unventilated environment.

    B. Maintain 50 degrees F during installation of mortar materials.

   1.10 EXTRA MATERIALS

    A. Furnish under provisions of Section 01700.

    B. Provide 2 sq ft of each size, color, and surface finish of tile specified.

   PART 2 - PRODUCTS

   2.01 TILE MANUFACTURERS

    A. American Olean: Product, Suedetones.

    B. Dal-Tile: Product, Glazed Wall Tile.

    C. Monarch Tile: Product, Shadows.

    D. Substitutions: Under provisions of Section 01600.

   2.02 CERAMIC TILE MATERIALS

    A. Ceramic Mosaic Wall Tile: ANSI A137.1, conforming to the following:

    1. Moisture Absorption Over 3.0 percent

    2. Size 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 x 5/16 inch

    3. Shape Square

    4. Edge Cushioned

    5. Surface Finish Glazed matte glazed

    6. Color As selected by the Engineer

   2.03 ADHESIVE MATERIALS

    A. Manufacturers:

    1. American Olean - Product as recommended by manufacturer.

    2. Dal-Tile - Product as recommended by manufacturer.

    3. Monarch Tile - Product as recommended by manufacturer.

    B. Organic Adhesive: ANSI A136.1, Type I thinset bond type.

   2.04 GROUT MATERIALS

    A. Manufacturers:

    1. American Olean - Product as recommended by manufacturer.

    2. Dal-Tile - Product as recommended by manufacturer.

    3. Monarch Tile - Product as recommended by manufacturer.

    B. Grout: ANSI A118.6, tile grout, color as selected by the engineer.

   2.05 GROUT MIX

    A. Mix and proportion pre-mix and grout materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and TCA Handbook.

   PART 3 - EXECUTION

   3.01 EXAMINATION

    A. Verify substrate under provisions of Section 01039.

    B. Verify that surfaces are ready to receive work.

   3.02 PREPARATION

    A. Protect surrounding work from damage or disfiguration.

    B. Vacuum clean surfaces and damp clean.

    C. Seal substrate surface cracks with filler.

    D. Apply sealer and/or conditioner to substrate surfaces in accordance with adhesive manufacturer's instructions.

   3.03 INSTALLATION - THINSET METHOD

    A. Install adhesive tile and grout in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and to TCA Handbook Method Number W223-86.

    B. Cut and fit tile tight to penetrations through tile. Form corners and bases neatly.

    C. Place tile joints uniform in width, subject to variance in tolerance allowed in tile size. Make joints watertight, without voids, cracks, excess mortar, or excess grout.

    D. Form internal angles square and external angles square.

    E. Sound tile after setting. Replace hollow sounding units.

    F. Keep expansion and control joints free of adhesive or grout. Apply sealant to joints.

    G. Allow tile to set for a minimum of 48 hours prior to grouting.

    H. Grout tile joints.

    I. Apply sealant to junction of tile and dissimilar materials and junction of dissimilar planes.

   3.04 CLEANING

    A. Clean work under provisions of 01700.

    B. Clean tile and grout surfaces.
