PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 ROOF EXHAUSTERS AND VENTILATORS, AND WALL EXHAUSTERS

C. Product Requirements:
1. Performance Ratings: Conform to AMCA 210.
2. Sound Ratings: AMCA 301, tested to AMCA 300.
3. Fabrication: Conform to AMCA 99.
4. UL Compliance: UL listed and labeled, designed, manufactured, and tested in accordance with UL 705.
5. Motor driven pressure type for roof mounting and exposure to weather.
D. Performance as shown on Drawings.
E. Fan Unit: V-belt or direct driven as indicated, with aluminum or fiberglass reinforced plastic housing as shown; resilient mounted motor; 1/2 inch (13 mm) mesh, 16 gage (2 mm) aluminum or enamel coated birdscreen; square base and counter flashing to suit roof curb and extend down a minimum of 2 inches (51 mm) over side of curb, with continuous curb gaskets. Bolt fans to curbs.
F. Power Roof Ventilator Unit Base: 12 gage (2.8 mm) aluminum, 14 gage (1.8 mm) galvanized steel or 304/316 stainless steel as indicated.
G. Power Roof Exhauster Unit Housing: Fiberglass reinforced plastic with reinforcing angles and frame to withstand 90 mile per hour winds and transfer fan unit weights and stresses to the unit base and curb. Provide fiberglass reinforced plastic units with a minimum of 5 percent antimony for a flame spread rating of 25 or less and a carbon rich resin banded and strapped for electrical grounding. Provide ultra-violet ray protection by the addition of cyasorb UV-9 or similar product.
H. Power Roof Exhauster Unit Housing: Provide wind band with heavy duty butterfly type shutters mounted in the housing stack of upblast power roof exhausters. Provide double wall fiberglass reinforced plastic or 304 stainless steel shutter leaves to prevent warping under repeated opening and closing with stainless steel hinge pins pivoting in oilless stainless steel or nylon sleeve bearings are stainless steel ball or roller bearings. Provide neoprene edge strips on shutter leaves for tight seal and silent operation. Provide shutter stop bars to support the shutter in the open position. Provide raid gutters and drains to prevent entrance of rain water into the structure. Shutters shall open by fan pressure and close by gravity.
I. Unit Fan Wheel:
1. Backward Inclined: None sparking construction with smooth curved inlet flange, heavy back plate, backwardly curved blades welded or riveted to flange and back plate; cast iron hub riveted to back plate and keyed to shaft and locked with split taper lock type bushing.
2. Impeller: Shaped stainless steel, corrosion resistant coated steel reinforced aluminum or heavy die formed aluminum blade with heavy steel or malleable cast iron hub, statically and dynamically balanced, locked to shaft with split taper lock type bushing.
J. Bearings and Drives:
1. Bearings: AFBMA 9, L-10 life at 50,000 hours heavy duty pillow block type, self-aligning, grease-lubricated ball bearings.
2. Shafts: Stainless steel, ground and polished, with key-way; protectively coated with lubricating oil.
3. V-Belt Drive: Cast iron or steel sheaves, dynamically balanced, bored to fit shaft and keyed. Variable and adjustable pitch sheaves for motors 15 hp (11.2 kW) and under selected so required rpm is obtained with sheaves set at mid-position.
4. Belt and Motor Weather Protection and Guard: Fabricate to SMACNA Standards. Secure to fan or fan supports without short circuiting vibration isolation, with provision for adjustment of belt tension, lubrication, and use of tachometer with guard in place.
5. Lubrication: Extend lubrication fittings to outside of housing.
K. Backdraft Dampers
1. Gravity backdraft dampers, furnished with air moving equipment, may be air moving equipment manufacturers construction equal to fan material of construction.
2. Fabricate multi-blade, parallel action gravity balanced backdraft dampers of 16 gage (1.5 mm) stainless steel, with blades of maximum 6 inch (150 mm) width, with felt or flexible vinyl sealed edges, linked together in rattle-free manner with 90 degree stop, steel ball bearings, and plated steel pivot pin; adjustment device to permit setting for varying differential static pressure.
L. Painting: Exterior phosphatized and coated with a weather resistant baked enamel. Interior coated with acid resistant epoxy enamel, heresite or corrosite. Stainless steel and fiberglass reinforced plastic surfaces need not be painted.
M. Non-Sparking Units: Provide corrosion protection coating on aluminum wheels or fiberglass reinforced plastic with static grounding and explosion proof motors as indicated.
N. Supports: Stainless steel interior structural supports, plates, nuts, bolts, fasteners and hardware.
O. Bird Screen: 304 0.063 gage stainless steel, 4 mesh, bird screen, mounted in removable 304 stainless steel frame and replaceable. Mount on fan discharge.
P. Motor Mounting: Provide motors suitable for vertical shaft operation. Mount motors out of the exhaust air stream on heavy steel base plates supported from the housing and adjustable for belt tension on belt driven units.
Q. Motor Power Consumption: Not greater than 80 percent of motor nameplate rating at designated output capacity of fan unit.
R. Roof Curb: 12 inch (300 mm) high self flashing of aluminum with continuously welded seams, built in cant strips one inch (25 mm) insulation and curb bottom hinged curb adapter, and factory installed nailer strip. Concrete curb, field constructed, where indicated.
S. Electrical Characteristics and Components.
1. Electrical Characteristics as indicated on Drawings.
2. Motor: Refer to Section 15170.
3. Wiring Terminations: Provide terminal lugs to match branch circuit conductor quantities, sizes, and materials indicated. Enclose terminal lugs in terminal box sized to NFPA 70.
4. Disconnect Switch: Factory wired, non-fusible, in housing on Power Roof Ventilators and in housing or exterior housing mounted, weather protected, on Roof or Wall Exhausters for thermal overload protected motor.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Secure roof or wall exhausters with stainless steel lag screws to roof curb or structure.
C. Extend ducts to roof or wall exhausters into roof curb or structure. Counterflash duct to roof or wall opening.
D. Install flexible connections specified in Section 15910 between fan inlet and ductwork. Ensure metal bands of connectors are parallel with minimum one inch (25 mm) flex between ductwork and fan while running.
E. Provide sheaves required for final air balance.
F. Install backdraft dampers on inlet to roof and wall exhausters.
G. Do not operate fans for any purpose until ductwork is clean, filters in place, bearings lubricated, and fan has been test run under observation.
