General Construction Specifications

   PART 1 - GENERAL

    01 WORK INCLUDED

    A. This section describes work which includes all combustion products venting for gas, oil, or solid fuel fired equipment.

    02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    A. Combustion products vent piping shall be UL listed for use with building heating equipment burning gas, liquid, or solid fuels as described in NFPA 211. Flues shall comply with all applicable codes and standards.

    03 SUBMITTALS

    A. Submit manufacturer's product data to Architect for approval as required by Section 15010.

   PART 2 - PRODUCTS

04 DOUBLE WALL CLASS 'B' VENTS

    A. The gas vent system shall be an engineered double wall system, constructed to develop a positive flow adequate to exhaust all flue gases to outside atmosphere without condensation within the vent or spillage at any appliance draft hood. All flue-gas carrying parts of the system shall be continuous from the appliance outlet to the stack cap.

    B. The outer pipe shall be galvanized steel with internal spacing beads to assure a uniform insulating air space between pipe walls. Each end shall be die formed to assure uniform sizing for strong, easy to connect joints.

    C. The inner pipe shall be aluminum and shall be attached to the outer pipe at only one end to allow for differential expansion.

    D. Provide prefabricated clean-outs, T-sections, ventilated thimble, etc. for complete installation.

05 DOUBLE WALL PRESSURE SEALED VENTS

    A. The flue shall have an outer jacket of aluminum coated steel 0.025" thick in 10" - 24" sizes and 0.034" thick for 28" - 36" sizes. There shall be a minimum one inch air space between the walls.

    B. The inner gas-carrying pipe shall be Type 316 or Type 304 stainless steel 0.035" minimum thickness for all sizes.

    C. For positive internal pressure systems, inner pipe joints shall be sealed during field assembly with any RTV Silicone Sealant for flue gas temperatures up to 600o F. For gas temperatures over 600o F, joints shall be sealed with a paste of Sauereisen #33 ceramic joint cement or equal.

    D. Flue pipe extending above roof surfaces shall terminate as required by local code, or as required in Appendix D of NFPA 211.

    E. All exposed metal parts shall be protected by a minimum of one base coat and one finish coat of heat and corrosion resistant primer and paint.

    F. Provide prefabricated clean-outs, T-sections, ventilated thimble, etc. for complete installation.

    06 REFRACTORY LINED CHIMNEYS

    A. The flue shall have an outer jacket of aluminum coated steel 0.025" thick in 10" - 24" sizes and 0.034" thick for 28" - 36" sizes. There shall be a minimum two inch acid resistant centrifugally spun refractory liner exposed to high temperature flue gases.

    B. For positive internal pressure systems, inner pipe joints shall be sealed during field assembly with high temperature joint cement and silicone cement for exit gas temperatures under 350oF. For exit gas temperatures over 350oF, joints shall be sealed with high temperature joint cement.

    C. Flue pipe extending above roof surfaces shall terminate as required by local code, or as required in Appendix D of NFPA 211.

    D. All exposed metal parts shall be protected by a minimum of one base coat and one finish coat of heat and corrosion resistant primer and paint.

    E. Provide prefabricated clean-outs, T-sections, ventilated thimble, etc. for complete installation.

    07 FIELD FABRICATED BREECHING

    A. Field fabricated breeching shall be minimum 16 gauge black steel with fully welded seams and joints.

    B. Provide cleanout access doors, etc. as required.

    08 DIESEL ENGINE EXHAUST PIPING

    A. Schedule 40 black steel piping with butt weld joints.

    B. Provide ventilated roof thimble, cleanouts, etc. for a complete installation.

    09 MANUFACTURERS

    A. Provide products as manufactured by Selkirk-Metalbestos, Metal Fab, Inc., or Van Packer.

   PART 3 - EXECUTION

    010 INSTALLATION

    A. Provide all materials and labor necessary for a complete installation of vent, chimney, and/or breeching.

    B. Support manufactured vents in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Support field fabricated vents, etc. in accordance with good practice, as shown on drawings, and in accordance with NFPA 211.

    C. Provide chimneys with fly ash screen; vent piping with weather cap; and diesel exhaust piping with weather flap.

    D. Provide properly sized barometric damper on breeching as required.

    E. Install horizontal breeching, etc. with a positive slope back to equipment served.

    F. Maintain required clearances from combustible and non-combustible surfaces.

    011 APPLICATIONS

    A. Provide double wall Class 'B' vent piping for the following services:

    1. Atmospheric draft domestic hot water heaters

    2. Atmospheric draft boilers

    3. Gas-fired unit heaters

    4. Gas fired furnaces
